What are your favorite bands/artists?

Hi
Just thought I'd start a music thread to see what everyone likes around here. My favorite bands/artists are: of Montreal, Sunset Rubdown, Interpol, Arcade Fire, Matt and Kim, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Death Cab for Cutie, Pixies, Muse, Reverie Sound Revue, The Cure, Devotchka, Broken Social Scene, Ladytron, and more of Montreal.

If we're going to keep it Jug, the Memphis Jug Band had no equals according to the recorded evidence.
Outside of that, I'll be a Jazz bore if you like...

Re: What are your favourite bands/artists, I guess this has to be jug, so I'll start with the Memphis Jug Band, Gus Cannons Beale Street Stompers, The Birmingham Jug Band, Jed Davenports Beale Street Band and King Davids Jug Band, also not really a jugband but I really like the Mississippi Sheiks and of course Mr. Bo Carter. When I was playing this stuff we'd rip off these bands. Jim kweskin has to be in as well and a lot of British Jug acts also helped us with songs like The Alligator Jug Thumper's, The very excellent Panama Limited Jug Band, this is the one we would try and sound like, Tight Like That and even The Pigsty Hill Light Orchestra, Bob Kerr's Woopee Band and Bonzo's all have a place in my heart, I Keep on saying it, gotta dust off that jug!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RE: What are your favorite bands/artists?

Back in the 1960s when I first learned guitar from some blues and jug band players you couldn't find much of the original stuff on record. "K.C. Moan" by the Memphis Jug Band was the first old jub band recording I ever heard, off the Harry Smith Anthology of American Folk Music. Took almost another decade before whole albums of the Memphis Jug Band and Cannon's Jug Stompers came my way. Still my favorites, although I've usually bought every one I could find. The first couple Kewskin albums were big favorites of mine, too. The most similar music I liked were the black string bands like the Mississippi Sheiks (even met Sam Chatmon in the early 70s) and Martin, Bogen, and Armstrong.

Looking forward to hearing Iron Maiden's "Bring Your Jug To The Jug-Fest". Also, Metallica's "Jugman", Mac's "Juggers", and the re-makes of the Pink Floyd canon: Jug Band at a the Gates of Dawn, A Saucerful of Washboards, Juggle, Atom Heart Jug Band, Obscured By Jugs (great cover art!), Dark Side of the Jug, Wish We Were a Jug Band, The Delicate Sound of Jug Bands, The Final Jug, The Division Jug, and so on.
