Long-Neck Banjo

I was turned on to banjo by the music and playing of Pete Seeger, and have always wanted a long-neck banjo. This desire has gotten stronger lately, so I have dcided to take the plunge. There is a guy in nearby Northampton, MA who builds banjos from parts; I bought a neck on EBay and he will put the whole thing together for me. The banjo will have a Whyte Laydie tone ring and should be quite a step up from my current Deering Goodtime.

I'll post pictures and sound files once the banjo is finally done and in my hands. It should be about a month.

RE: Long-Neck Banjo

Nice, Looking forward to seeing it. Speaking of banjos, I just modified a neck to a half fretless with a brass plate and put it on a block pot. Banjos are just too much fun.

RE: Long-Neck Banjo

The most popular style of five string music is bluegrass. This is played on a banjo with a resonator, and the preferred tone is loud and attacking as you normally play with other bluegrass instruments. The right hand plays "three finger style" using finger picks. The style is not difficult to learn but requires much practice to achieve the desired fluency and tempo
